Kolsvart AB was founded in April 2012. Originally, the idea was to run an attractive café. This became Rosie’s Café in Slottsstaden in Malmö. The time was ripe for a place that sold high-quality coffee, because more and more consumers were looking for environment awareness and craftsmanship. People came in droves. But it was far from being a financial successful, and our passion for coffee was perhaps stronger than our knowledge about how to run a business, where all the cogs in the wheel need to work together.
Then, after testing products from a Danish liquorice company that, incidentally, wasn’t doing that great either, we turned our minds to making our own liquorice instead. One of the owners had the unenviable task of persuading the rest of the team that we would have to close the café. To sacrifice one dream for another, so we could build the liquorice company Kolsvart AB. In order to see the light, we first had to face total darkness.
At Kolsvart (which means pitch black) our ambition is to put our liquorice on the map, and for this to happen, it must always be fresh, and always as natural as possible. Our liquorice has been analysed in a laboratory, to optimise its nutritional content, and are constantly experimenting with exciting flavours and raw materials. Together with Simris Alg, for instance, we developed a completely new ALGAE liquorice. Our liquorice will always be as pure and natural as possible.
